From Idea to MVP in 30 Days With AI: The Founder’s Playbook

You can go from idea to a real, paying MVP in 30 days using AI. Days 1–7: validate the problem. Days 8–14: pre-sell the offer. Days 15–22: build the thinnest possible version. Days 23–30: ship and onboard your first customers. The pre-sell is the single most important step — if no one will pay before you build, no one will pay after.

The 30-day MVP plan

  • Days 1–7 — problem and customer interviews.
  • Days 8–14 — craft the offer + pre-sell.
  • Days 15–22 — build the thinnest version.
  • Days 23–30 — ship, onboard, gather feedback.

Days 1–7: problem and customer

Talk to 10 potential customers. Don’t pitch — ask. “What’s your current solution? What’s broken about it? What would a 10x better version look like?” Stop only when you can describe the problem in the customer’s own words.

Days 8–14: pre-sell

Build a one-page landing offering the solution. Charge real money (a deposit or full price). Tell prospects: “I’m building this. If you want first access, here’s the link.” Get at least 3 paid commitments before writing any code. If you can’t pre-sell, you don’t have a business yet.

Days 15–22: build the thinnest version

The MVP is whatever delivers the outcome with the least technology. Could be a Notion doc. Could be a Zapier flow. Could be you doing the work manually behind a form. Build for the 3 paying customers, not the imagined 1,000.

Days 23–30: ship and onboard

Onboard each paying customer 1:1. Watch them use it. Note what breaks. Fix it for the next customer. The first 10 customers should never be self-serve — you learn faster from concierge onboarding.

Validation patterns that work

  • Paid pre-orders or deposits.
  • Signed letters of intent (B2B).
  • Waitlist with deposit.

Validation patterns that don’t

  • Survey responses (“would you use this?”).
  • Free signups without follow-through.
  • Friends saying “cool idea.”
