This Privacy Policy explains how “Ad Blocking Extension – Choose What You Want to Block” (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you install and use this Chrome extension. By installing and using this extension, you agree to the terms described herein.

1. Information We Collect

1.1. Extension Preferences

  • What: We store only your ad‐blocking preferences and feature toggles (e.g., which categories you’ve chosen to block, Soft‐Block status, cookie‐banner action, anti‐adblock bypass setting, and any active temporary disable timer).

  • How: Preferences are saved locally in your Chrome profile using the chrome.storage.sync API. If you are signed into Chrome and have sync enabled, these settings may propagate to your other Chrome browsers (per Chrome’s sync behavior).

  • Why: To remember and reapply your chosen settings every time you launch Chrome (or switch devices, if sync is on) so you don’t have to reconfigure each session.

1.2. Usage Data (Transient)

  • What: To implement ad blocking, the extension evaluates network requests (e.g., requests to doubleclick.net, ads.yahoo.com, and other known ad/tracker domains). Those evaluations occur entirely within Chrome and use the built‐in Manifest V3 declarativeNetRequest API. No details about specific websites you visit or your browsing history are ever persisted or transmitted externally.

  • How: Chrome’s runtime handles request matching and blocking internally. We do not log or store any network traffic details beyond applying the blocking rules in memory.

  • Why: To identify and cancel unwanted ad/tracker requests before they reach your browser frame, thereby speeding up page load and reducing unwanted tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Persisting Settings: We use your stored preferences (from chrome.storage.sync) to know which ad categories to block, whether “Soft‐Block” mode is on, how to handle cookie banners, and whether to bypass anti‐adblock overlays.

  • Reapplying Rules: Whenever Chrome starts or you click “Save Settings,” we read your preferences and dynamically update blocking rules via chrome.declarativeNetRequest.updateDynamicRules(...).

  • Temporary Disable Timer: If you choose a Temporary Disable interval, we schedule an internal Chrome Alarm (chrome.alarms) so that, after the specified time, your previous settings are restored automatically.

  • Content Scripts: If you’ve enabled cookie‐banner auto‐accept/reject or anti‐adblock bypass, our content script (injected into each web page) uses your stored instruction (accept, reject, or none) to click the first matching “Accept”/“Reject” button or hide known overlay elements. These actions occur entirely in your browser’s context; no page text or content is forwarded anywhere.

3. Data Sharing & Third Parties

  • No Personal Data Sharing: We do not collect or share your personal information, browsing history, or any identifying data with any third parties.

  • No Analytics or Tracking: This extension does not include Google Analytics, telemetry, or any external tracking scripts. We do not record how often you click features or which sites you visit.

  • Chrome Sync (Optional): If you have Chrome Sync enabled, your extension preferences are stored in Google’s secure cloud servers under your Chrome profile. That storage is subject to Google’s own privacy policies and encryption practices. We do not directly access or view your sync data.

  • No Advertising or Marketing: We do not use your data for targeted advertising, marketing outreach, or sell any information to advertisers or other entities.

4. Permissions Explained

  1. declarativeNetRequest

    • Purpose: Allows the extension to register and update a set of network‐blocking rules. Chrome takes care of intercepting and canceling requests matching those rules.

    • Privacy Impact: All filtering happens locally in Chrome. No external server is involved. We do not log details of individual requests beyond what the browser requires to block them.

  2. storage

    • Purpose: Saves your chosen settings (which ad categories to block, Soft‐Block status, cookie preferences, anti‐adblock bypass, timer state).

    • Privacy Impact: Data is stored locally in your Chrome profile. If you use Chrome Sync, it may be encrypted and stored on Google’s servers; we do not access it.

  3. alarms

    • Purpose: Powers the Temporary Disable timer. When you pause blocking for N minutes, we schedule an alarm so the extension can automatically resume blocking afterward.

    • Privacy Impact: Alarms run locally and do not send any data externally.

  4. <all_urls> Host Permission

    • Purpose: Ensures the extension can inspect and potentially block network requests on any website you visit.

    • Privacy Impact: We do not read or record the full list of URLs you browse. Chrome’s internal engine simply checks each outgoing request against our rule patterns (e.g. “doubleclick.net,” “ads.yahoo.com”). If it matches, it’s blocked; if not, it proceeds. No URL logs are stored or transmitted.

  5. Content Scripts (content.js)

    • Purpose: When cookie‐banner auto‐accept/reject or anti‐adblock bypass is enabled, the script is injected into each page to look for matching buttons or overlays and either click them or hide them.

    • Privacy Impact: All operations occur within the page’s Document Object Model (DOM). We do not send any page text or user data anywhere—only perform local manipulations.

5. Security and Data Retention

  • Storage Duration: Your settings remain in chrome.storage.sync (or local storage if sync is off) indefinitely until you change or remove them.

  • No External Databases: We maintain no external database of users, preferences, or browsing behavior.

  • Encryption & Chrome Sync: If you’re signed into Chrome and have Sync enabled, your settings are encrypted on Google’s servers. We never see or manage those encrypted values.

  • Data Access: Only the extension’s code can read or modify your stored settings. No other website, script, or third‐party service can access them.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally to reflect changes in extension functionality or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top. Your continued use of the extension following those changes indicates your acceptance of any revised terms.
