Markup vs. margin — the most-confused pricing concept

A 50% markup is not a 50% margin. Markup is a percentage over cost; margin is a percentage of selling price. A $25 cost with 50% markup sells for $37.50 — but that is only a 33% gross margin. The calculator shows both numbers side by side.
