TrendScope
Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 9, 2026
1. Overview
TrendScope is a browser extension that helps you explore trending topics, related searches, community questions, and sentiment insights for any topic you enter. This Privacy Policy explains what data is involved when you use TrendScope, how it flows, and what we do — and do not — do with it.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
TrendScope does not:
- Collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII)
- Track your browsing history or activity across websites
- Create user profiles or persistent identifiers
- Use cookies, beacons, or fingerprinting techniques
- Share any data with advertisers or data brokers
- Operate any backend server that receives your data
3. How Searches Work
When you enter a topic in TrendScope, the extension sends that search query directly from your browser to one or more public search services. This is how results are retrieved. The query travels from your device to those services — it does not pass through any TrendScope or developer-controlled server.
The public services used include:
- Public search engine HTML endpoints (for web and platform-filtered results)
- Public search suggestion APIs (for related searches and autocomplete data)
- Public community discussion APIs (for forum and thread results)
- A third-party RSS-to-JSON conversion service (for news feed results)
Each of these services receives your search query and your IP address as part of a standard web request — the same as if you had typed the query directly into a browser tab. TrendScope has no control over how these services handle that data. Their own privacy policies apply.
4. Page Context (Active Tab)
TrendScope reads limited metadata from your currently active browser tab — such as the page title, URL, and description meta tag — when you use the context menu or the auto-fill feature. This data is used only to pre-populate the search field within the extension. It is:
- Never transmitted anywhere
- Never stored beyond the current session
- Processed entirely within your browser
5. Local Storage
TrendScope uses your browser’s local storage to save your preferences and settings (such as enabled platforms and display options). This data:
- Stays on your device only
- Is never transmitted to any server
- Can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing browser storage
6. Third-Party Services
As noted above, TrendScope relies on the following categories of third-party services to function. By using TrendScope, you acknowledge that your search queries are sent to these services:
Public search engine services
Used to retrieve web and platform-filtered search results. Their standard terms of service and privacy policies apply to queries made through them.
Public discussion platform API
Used to retrieve community discussion results. Queries are sent as standard API requests. Their privacy policy applies.
RSS-to-JSON conversion service (rss2json.com)
Used to convert public news RSS feeds into a usable format. News search queries are routed through this service. The rss2json.com privacy policy applies to those requests.
TrendScope is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or responsible for any of these third-party services.
7. Children’s Privacy
TrendScope is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly interact with or collect information from children. If you believe a child has used this extension in a way that raises privacy concerns, please contact us.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the “Last updated” date at the top of this document will be revised. Continued use of TrendScope after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
9. Contact
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or TrendScope’s data practices, please contact us via the Chrome Web Store listing page for TrendScope.
