How to use the Strikethrough Text Generator

Type your text and the tool shows six versions at once: strikethrough, slash through, underline, double underline, overline and double overline. Press Copy next to the style you want and paste it anywhere.

Why Unicode strikethrough works where formatting does not

Most social platforms and chat apps strip rich-text formatting such as the HTML <s> and <u> tags. Unicode combining marks survive because they are part of the characters themselves, not a formatting layer. That lets you show a crossed-out or underlined word in places that only accept plain text.

Common use cases

  • Showing a sale price next to the old one: o̶l̶d̶ ̶$̶9̶9̶ then $49
  • Playful posts that show a word being "corrected"
  • X and Instagram bios that look a little more designed
  • Emphasis in WhatsApp, Discord and other chats
  • Showing what was cut from a list or a plan

Frequently asked questions

Why does the line sometimes look misaligned?

Combining marks are drawn by the font on each device, so the line can sit a little higher or lower on iPhone than on Android. The effect stays readable but may not look perfect everywhere.

Will screen readers announce the strikethrough?

Usually not. Screen readers tend to ignore these marks and read the plain letters, or they may read the marks out awkwardly. Do not rely on strikethrough to carry meaning that matters.

Can I use it in emails?

Yes, the characters display in modern email clients. In HTML emails you control, the <del> or <s> tag gives a cleaner result.

Does it work on emoji?

Results vary. Letters and numbers look clean, but some apps ignore the mark on emoji.
