How to use the status checker
Enter a website URL or domain and click Check status. Our server requests the site and reports whether it answers, the HTTP status code, the response time and any redirects. Because the test runs from our server, it tells you whether the site is down for everyone or only on your connection.
The tool also builds one-click links to twelve outside checks: crowd-sourced outage reports, global DNS lookups, Whois, SSL and security header tests, Google Safe Browsing and speed tests. Each opens in a new tab.
Is it the site, or is it me?
When a site will not load, the problem can be the site itself, its DNS, your internet provider, your DNS resolver or your browser. If our server reaches the site but you cannot, the issue is almost certainly on your side. If neither can, the DNS and SSL checks help you find out why.
A note on crowd-sourced reports
Outage trackers rely on user reports. A spike is a strong signal, but small sites with few visitors will rarely show up even when they are down. A direct server test, DNS lookups and an SSL check give firmer answers for less-visited sites.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the site load for others but not for me?
The usual causes are a stale DNS cache on your device or router, your provider's DNS, a browser cache or a regional CDN problem. Try a public DNS resolver such as 1.1.1.1, a private window, or your phone on mobile data.
What do the status codes mean?
2xx means the page loaded. 3xx means it redirected. 4xx means the page was not found or access was refused, so the server is up. 5xx means the server itself failed, which usually means the site is down.
Why check Google Safe Browsing?
If Google flags a site for malware or phishing, browsers show a full-page warning and visitors leave. Check it after a hack or after restoring a backup.
How can I monitor uptime all the time?
Use a monitoring service such as UptimeRobot, Better Stack or Pingdom, which test your site every minute or so and alert you. This tool is for one-off checks.
