Why pixel width beats character count
Google cuts titles by pixels, not by characters. A title full of wide letters such as W, M and capitals gets truncated sooner than one made of narrow letters like i, l and j. Two titles with the same character count can behave very differently in the results page.
This checker measures your title in the font Google uses for desktop results, so the pixel width reflects the real letters you typed rather than an average. It also shows a preview with the cut applied, so you can see which words survive.
How to write a title that fits
- Put the main keyword and the reason to click near the start.
- Keep the brand name at the end, where losing it hurts least.
- Avoid all caps. Capital letters are wider and eat your space fast.
- Write for people first. Google may rewrite titles that look stuffed or vague.
Frequently asked questions
What is the safe maximum?
About 580 pixels for desktop results, which is roughly 55 to 60 characters for most titles. Mobile results can show a little more text because the title can wrap onto a second line.
Will a long title hurt my rankings?
Not directly. The risk is that the important part gets cut off, which lowers clicks. Google also rewrites some titles, so a clear, accurate title is your best defence.
Why is my result different from another checker?
Tools measure with different fonts and limits. Google changes its layout from time to time, so treat any limit as a guide and leave a small margin.
