What glossary markup does
A glossary explains the terms your audience needs to know. Glossary markup describes those terms in a structured way, using the Schema.org DefinedTermSet and DefinedTerm types, so search engines and AI tools can tell exactly which word is being defined and where the definition lives.
This generator builds the JSON-LD for your whole glossary and the matching HTML definition list, with an anchor for every term. Each term can carry a definition, a URL, an image and alternate names such as abbreviations or synonyms. Your entries are processed in your browser and are not stored or shared.
How to use it
- Name your glossary and enter the URL of the page it lives on.
- Add terms one by one, or paste a list with one term and definition per line.
- Keep "Link each term to an anchor" on to give every term its own address, such as
/glossary/#bounce-rate. - Copy the JSON-LD into the page's
<head>or body, and use the Visible HTML tab for the glossary itself. - Check the result with the Schema.org validator.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum information I need for each term?
A term and its definition. The URL, image and alternate names are optional, but they help connect the term to the right page and to the other names people search for.
Is there a limit on the number of terms?
No. Large glossaries work fine. If yours grows very long, consider splitting it into topic pages, each with its own markup.
Will glossary markup improve my rankings?
There is no guarantee, and Google does not offer a rich result for glossaries. The value is clarity: well-defined terms are easier for search engines and AI assistants to understand, match to questions and attribute to your site.
Can I use it for languages other than English?
Yes. Enter your terms in any language. For a multilingual site, add a separate glossary and markup on each language version of the page.
